Some Great New Videos from WTC SwimSmart Initiative

July 21, 2014 By Larry Creswell, MD Leave a Comment

Here’s a quick update from the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) SwimSmart initiative.  They’ve put together a YouTube playlist called “SwimSmart Saturdays,” a 9-part series of short (~1-2 minute) video clips that illustrate their 9-point checklist for race day swim safety:

  1. Prepare Early
  2. Work Your Way Up
  3. Be in the Know
  4. Safety First
  5. Tried and True Gear
  6. Warm Up Right
  7. Assess the Situation
  8. Start Easy, Relax and Breathe
  9. Be Alert and Ask for Help

This is all great advice for triathletes looking to have a safe day at the race.

Videos by Doc Mike Evans

This is just a short post to draw attention to the remarkable video series by Doc Mike Evans, a family physician at the University of Toronto.  Over the past couple years, he’s produced a growing collection of witty educational videos on topics ranging from concussions to flatulence to obesity.  In his words, he’s trying to create a “med school for the public.”  The collection of videos is available at his YouTube site.

Some of my favorites on the topic of exercise are:

  • 23 and 1/2 hours:  What is the single best thing we can do for our health?
  • Let’s Make Our Day Harder

Inspirational Videos

May 3, 2012 By Larry Creswell, MD Leave a Comment

A couple video clips caught my attention this week and I thought I’d share the links here.  I’ll bet that, like me, you’ll identify with the spirit of their creators.

The first video clip, Make It Count, is from Casey Neistet.  Funded by Nike, the video chronicles a 10-day trip by Casey and his friend, Max.

The second video clip, Exercising Around the World, is from Steve Kamb.  You can also check out his nerdfitness blog, where Steve describes the making of his recent 18-month, 120,000-mile journey–exercising all along the way!

Enjoy!
